Team Fitness Training Center "UPS" the
standard in Fitness.
By Kristen Gostomski, NSCA-CPT.CSCS Founder & President Are you thinking about starting an exercise program,
but not sure where to start? Are you currently exercising, but not
reaching the goals you've set for yourself? Are you bored of your
exercise program, and not sure how to spice things up? Or are you
a serious athlete looking for that competitive edge? If you answered
yes to any of these questions, this article will help you to make
an educated decision about where you exercise, and who you entrust
to develop and implement your exercise program.
Unfortunately, no industry standards currently exist for fitness
professionals? The title of personal trainer or
fitness instructor requires no degree and no certification. That's
why it is up to you to research credentials, and ask the right questions.
Many of the larger health clubs use a sales staff to sell both memberships
and personal training. Do not hire a personal trainer without meeting
them. You should feel comfortable with their personality, and their
credentials.
Key questions:
- Do you have a 4-year degree in the field ? (They
should have at least a bachelor degree in one of the health or
sports sciences.)
- Are you certified? (The 3 top certifying agencies
are the NSCA, ACSM, and ACE. Other certifying bodies exist with
very low standards. Many are short take-home exams.)
- Do you attend conferences, seminars, or conventions in your field?
How many have you attended in the past year? (Unless they have
been continuing their education they are probably
not up to date on current health issues.)
The above credentials do not assure you a great fitness professional,
but they should certainly be the bare minimum you require of someone
so closely involved with your health.
Because the industry has no requirements for fitness professionals,
I created a fitness facility where high standards do exist.
Minimum requirements for my staff include a 4 -year degree in the
field, a certification from one of the three top certifying bodies
listed above, and 20 hours of continuing education a year. These
requirements are for all of my staff. That means
no sales staff so the minute you walk through the door you'll speak
to an educated fitness professional.
I started Team Fitness Training Center to give individuals an opportunity
to experience quality fitness instruction at affordable prices. We
offer both personal and small group training for individuals ages
8 - adult. Our clients vary from someone just starting an exercise
program to experienced weight lifters looking to take their workouts
to the next level. We also have programs for athletes interested
in performance enhancement.
Team Fitness' 7,400 square foot facility includes 4 training
studios and
full facility locker rooms.
Our equipment is mostly free weights, not machines because Team Fitness'
philosophy is to teach exercises that simulate everyday activities,
or for athletes simulate the movements of their sport. Whether you
are an athlete throwing a ball or a mother lifting your child, functionally
strengthening the muscles you use to do these everyday activities
will aid in the prevention of injuries.
We also use special balance training equipment like balance boards
and balance discs that work by forcing you to recruit more muscle
fibers in order to stabilize. As a result, you become stronger, leaner,
and less prone to injuries.
Stop by Team Fitness today for a free fitness consultation, and you'll
be on your way to a stronger, healthier, and more energetic you!
