No national industry standards currently exist for fitness professionals.
That means your group fitness instructor or personal trainer giving
you
important advice about your health may not have a college degree or
a
certification.
Team Fitness Training Center requires all of its staff to have:
• A four year degree in the field.
• A certification from one of the three top certifying agencies:
- National Strength and Conditioning

Association (NSCA)
- American College of Sports
Medicine (ACSM)
- American Council on Exercise (ACE)
Other certifying bodies exist with very low
standards. Many of them are short take-
home exams. •At least 20 hours of continuing
education a year.
Even if a fitness
professional has a degree in the field, unless they are required
to do continuing
education units they are probably not up to date on current health
issues.
